Brain Metastasis Response to Stereotactic Radio Surgery: A Mathematical Approach

نویسندگان

چکیده

Brain metastases (BMs) are cancer cells that spread to the brain from primary tumors in other organs. Up 35% of adult patients develop BMs. The treatment BM who have well-controlled extracranial disease and a small number lesions consists localized doses radiation (stereotactic radio surgery (SRS)). Estimating prognosis among may allow treatments be chosen balance durability intracranial tumor control with quality life side effects treatment. No mathematical model-based quantitative biomarkers been determined for estimating prognosis. As first step toward goal, we describe model growth response metastasis stereotactic surgery. incorporates some biological mechanisms involved SRS allows observed dynamics accurately described.

Gamma-Knife Radio Surgery in Brain Metastasis

Brain Metastasis (BM) is the most common type of intracranial malignancies in adult. Lung, breast cancer and melanoma are the malignancies which contribute up to 80% of BM [1]. Until recently, the median overall survival for patients with BM has been troubled, and in general the expected survival is at most 6 months after diagnosis [2]. However, owing to the advance of sensitive imaging modalit...

Hippocampal sparing approach in fractionated stereotactic brain VMAT radio therapy: A retrospective feasibility analysis

Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) techniques for fractioned stereotactic brain radiotherapy (FSBRT) can achieve highly conformal dose distribution to intracranial lesions. However, they can potentially increase the dose to hippocampus (H) causing neurocognitive toxicity during the first four months after irradiation. The purpose of this study was to assess the feasibility of hippocampal-s...

A brain network response to sham surgery.

Evaluation of potential therapies for neurological disease has been challenging due to beneficial responses in patients receiving the sham/placebo treatment. Placebo effects are especially prominent in Parkinson's disease (PD), which has become a useful model for studying the neurobiology of placebo responses. In this issue of the JCI, Ko and colleagues identify a neural circuit associated with...
